What to do in Mérida
Mérida’s center is a collection of historic, walkable neighborhoods -or barrios- centered around the Plaza Grande, featuring colonial homes, culinary spots and cultural spaces. This is Santiago’s city guide to navigate Mérida, Yucatán.
OUR BARRIO
Barrio de Santiago
One of Mérida’s oldest and most storied districts. Founded in the 1600s, it was originally established as a village for indigenous Mayans and skilled artisans.
Our hotel sits on Calle 63, walking distance to restaurants and the Santiago Marke, which continues to be one of Mérida’s finest. All within the charm of the Historic Center.
Where to eat
La Lupita in the Mercado de Santiago is our favorite for Yucatan classics. La querida special: is the taco de lechón, salbut de cochinita, taco de relleno negro and the “francés” de lechon is also a great choice.
Café Montejo on 59th street. Great for breakfast and amazing varieties for beverages of hot or cold Cacao.
Muchas Vidas another great option for vegan food in Mérida.
Shedys is a weekend-only place that specializes in burgers and fries, if you’re craving comfort food.
La Sicilia is a casual Italian restaurant, easy to get to, nothing fancy. Try the veal picatta or chicken.
Cantina el Cardenal is an institution since its establishment in 1915 is one of the oldest traditional Yucatecan Cantinas in the city.
